Why is Waist-Hip ratio important? Waist-hip ratio (WHR) is a medical term which denotes the ratio between the circumference of the waist and that of the hip. It's usually coupled with measurement of BMI. Men normally have greater WHR and women smaller. It is important for many reasons: one is beauty and attractiveness, modern research shows that the man's brain was set in such a way that it had a more likely chance to select female mating partners with WHR below 0.8. The same scientists also think that women with WHR<0.8 are more fertile?!Wow! Isn't that something! Of course times have changed and it has less importance in choosing the right partner. On the other hand it is useful to determine the risk ratio of an obese patient (BMI>30). If WHR>1.0 in men and >0.9 in women, the fat accumulates in the central part of the body(i.e. the abdominal cavity and it's contained organs). This is associated with a greater risk of developing cardiovascular diseases:atherosclerosis, high blood pressure, dyslipidemia and other conditions at a faster pace than that of a smaller WHR where the fat accumulates at the periphery of the body! These conditions may affect your organism already but you still have no clue about it. They usually progress slowly during the adulthood, but only become manifest in the elderly. If you are in your mid 30's or 40's and BMI and WHR are above normal, then it's time to take action and go to war against obesity: you must loose weight , either with the use of diet pills with natural plant extracts, special progressive exercise or ask for the help of a professional health-giver! You must also give your body and brain healthy food, as the Latin proverb tells us : “Mens sana in corpore sano!”
